Records of the Boston Cabinet and Piano-Forte Makers Mutual Aid Association, 1879-1901. Includes a volume, kept by secretary George E. Davenport, containing meeting minutes, financial records, and lists of members receiving aid, Jan. 1884- Oct. 1901; and loose receipts, 1879-98. The volume also contains Davenport family genealogical information such as family trees, copies of vital records, copies of deeds, and letters from various town clerks' offices, 1917-31; and broadsides from Massachusetts elections, 1868-69.

Davenport is noted for his botanical avocations, especially his research on ferns, though he made his living in business. He joined the Massachusetts Horticultural Society in 1872; and by 1875 he had compiled a herbarium of North American ferns. Shortly after, Davenport began publishing articles on ferns, which he continued doing until his death, and also wrote on forestry and horticulture.
